MV cable couplings are not just connecting elements. These are critical components on which line reliability, cable service life and personnel safety depend. We regularly receive requests from power engineers: “Why did the coupling fail after 3 years?”, “How to choose between cold and heat shrinkage at 10 kV?”, “What to do if the installation took place at minus 15 °C?”. The answers require not a catalog, but an engineering understanding of the conditions - and this is how we have been working with each project for 20 years.
The first misconception is to assume that any coupling marked “10 kV” is suitable. In practice, failures most often occur due to non-compliance of three key factors:
Our engineers always begin the selection with an analysis of the cable passport and a route inspection report - not according to the catalog, but according to real data.
Statistics from our field inspections show: 68% of premature failures are associated with violations of installation technology. Not with the quality of the product - with surface preparation, shrinkage time, field strength control.
For cold-shrinkable sleeves of MV cables, two points are critical: the cleanliness of the insulation surface (any trace of oil is a guaranteed breakdown) and the exact observance of the rolling time - less than 90 seconds for a section of 30 cm. Heat-shrinkable solutions require control of the heating temperature: below +110 °C - insufficient adhesion, above +140 °C - degradation of the silicone matrix.
We do not give “universal instructions”. For each model - from the HJW-10 end coupling to the SSN-35 connecting coupling - specialized techniques have been developed, including screen grounding schemes and the procedure for installing shielding rings. These documents are available to customers after order confirmation.
The factory warranty is not a service life. The actual resource is determined not only by the material, but also by the mode of operation. We record two main degradation scenarios:
All MV cable couplings of Shijiazhuang Hist Electric LLC undergo climatic testing in our own laboratory - including simulating 20 years of operation under conditions of variable temperatures and humidity.
We do not sell boxes marked “MV cable couplings”. We ensure compliance with three layers: technical (compliance with GOST R 50571.15-93, IEC 60840), operational (on-site support for the installation team) and operational (resource guarantee in specific climatic conditions).
Each delivery is accompanied by a technical passport with test data, a certificate of conformity and an individual installation control card. If required, we send an engineer to the site to audit the readiness of the route or train the crew.
Power system reliability begins not with the choice of voltage, but with the correct connection. And this connection must be designed, tested and maintained - every step of the way.
